Aims and Objectives of the Project
National Child Labour Policy, the NCLP Scheme was started in 1988 to rehabilitate child labour. The Scheme seeks to adopt a sequential approach with focus on rehabilitation of children working in hazardous occupations & processes in the first instance. Under the Scheme, after a survey of child labour engaged in hazardous occupations & processes has been conducted, children are to be withdrawn from these occupations & processes and then put into special schools in order to enable them to be mainstreamed into formal schooling system.
Initiatives against child labour in India; The Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act was enacted based on the recommendations of the committee in 1986. A National Policy on Child Labour was formulated in 1987 to focus on rehabilitating children working in hazardous occupations.
The main objective of running these Special Training Centers (STC) is to promote primary education to the children aged between 8 to 14 who are basically out of school/Drop outs/Potential child labour at micro level and successful mainstreaming into regular schools of all the children who have been withdrawn from child labour and rehabilitated through the project.
